‘Next Home Run I Hit Will Be For You’: Carlos Correa Hits Game Winning Home Run
October 15, 2019
Baseball player Carlos Correa met with a terminally ill fan in the hospital and told him, “Next home run I hit will be for you. When you see me pointing, I’ll be pointing at you.”
That night he hit the game winning home run to defeat the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series.
Correa made the promise to Jalen Garcia, a young teen battling cancer at the MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital in Houston.
Garcia is a student at United High School, the former school of Correa’s fiancee Daniella Rodriguez.
“As soon as I heard about Jalen being in Houston I made sure we did everything possible to meet him, ” Rodriguez shared in an Instagram post Friday. “You are our hero Jalen! Keep fighting we’re right behind you cheering you on.”
As promised, Correa hit a walk off home run in the 11th inning of the game, leading the Astros to a 3-2 victory over the Yankees.
“This one was for you Jalen, our Laredo warrior. Never forget how much we love you and that love is power,” Correa wrote on Instagram.
And of course, Correa pointed to the sky as he rounded the bases, keeping his promise to the teen.
